TERRITORIAL CAMPS.
Ist CANTERBURY MOUNTED REGIMENT (C.Y.C.).
The First Canterbury Mounted Regiment (C.Y.C.). under the command of Lieut—Colonel Deans, went into camp on a beautifully sheltered site on the Glentunnel Domain on Wednesday. In camp there are 14 officers and -18 men. Owitjg to a large number of enlistments in the Expeditionary Forces the regiment is considerably below full strength, but some of ttic gaps have been filled by former officers and noncoms. rejoining.
A good syllabus of work, including elementary drill, equitation, musketry, outpost, reconnaissance, attack practice, and concluding with a tactical scheme, has been prepared, and should give the men a good grasp of mounted work. There i_- a good muster of the C.Y.C. Band, under Bandmaster Thorn, in camp. The Y.M.C.A. have a iurge marquee in camp, which is under tho able direction of Mr A. S. Adams. This marquee also contains the caiitecn -which is being managed by the Y.M.C.A.. under arrangements with the regiment. In addition to concerts, 'which are- followed by a short nightly service, the evening lectures by the staff arc giveu in this marquee, which is th 0 centre of the social life of the camp.
Major Bond. Brigade-Major, w at present in camp. Colonel Chafley, officer commanding thp Canterbury Military District, inspected the icginient on Friday.
To-morrow thorp will be a church parade at 2.30 p.m.. after which. the camp will bo open to visitors.
