COUNTY COUNCILS.

MOUNT HERBERT

The monthly mooting of the Mount Herbert County Council ■ was hold oil Monday last. Present—Messrs 0. Bradley (chairman), A. R. Fleming, W. H. Firms ton, ,7. Hunter, J. A..Gellet j*, and I!. Allen. Correspondence was received from the Levels County Council enclosing a resolution passed by it regarding a speed limit tor motorcars and motor-cycles. It was resolved to support the resolution. From the Public Works Department, stating that it was intended, to prepare a new map of Canterbury and asking f6r assistance in marking out all tracks, formed roads, and metalled roads throughout the county. The clerk was instructed to forward the information required. From tlio Patriotic Fund (Queen Carnival) urging the Council to pay in to the fund as early as convenient. It was resolved to pay in all moneys collected, also the excess of the quota. The clerk was instructed to add 10 per cent, on all rates owing from .March Ist. It was resolved to advertise for tenders for metal, no tender to be. accepted from any pertrfn eligible for military service, Owing to the increased cost of living, the Council made an increase of nay to its employees. The Council voted an honorarium to the clerk for additional services rendered. Th c financial statement showed, a credit balance at the bank of £Gl3 5s 7d.
