BOROUGH COUNCILS.

BANGIOBA. The Raugiora Borough. Council met last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr O. I. Jennings;, Councillors W. Blackett, H. Boyd, C. Avers, W. L. Jameson, F. B. Lane. W. McGrucr C. C. Paterson, AV. A. Kowee, and W! J. House. Tho District Health Officer wrote that, owing to the prevalence of infantile paralysis in the North .Island, and the possibility of tho spread of the disease, ho urged the need of taking every possible step to improve tho sanitary condition of the■ town. The Mayor stated that the.borough .inspector had been engaged during the week in making a house-to-houso- inspection of the borough, and had so far found nearly the whole of the premises in a satisfactory sanitary condition. A letter was received from the Raugiora Brass Band, thanking the Council for its promised financial assistance, and stating that the band had restarted. v The Gasworks manager reported that the gas sold during February exceeded by 00,000 cubic feet the quantity disposed of during tho corresponding month last year.

It was-decided to provide a new 400gallori tank for water supply, and a gas geyser for heating water in the bathroom at the Fire Brigade Station. The Town Clerk reported that all but three of the councillors and ex-council-lors had complied with the order of the Auditor-General to refund the amount granted as a rebate on rates for prompt payment.

It was decided to forward the names of the defaulters to the Auditor-Gen-eral.

The financial statement showed- tnc general account receipts to have been £493 18s lid, and the debit balance to be £1045 4s 9d. General accounts for £19C lGs lOd. and gas department accounts for £401 4s 6d were passed for payment.

The treasurer reported that the rates outstanding amounted to £30 Is Bd, and the sanitary fees to £3 9s. It was resolved to sue- for rates and sanitation fees not paid by the 24th inst.

The Mayor l>rougl)t- under the notice of the Council the objects of the National Service "League, for which suppyt- was sought, hut the Council decided not to take any action in regard to the organisation.
