Murray, Eklridge, and Ritchie, and Messrs Harris and Gunn, "all of which were much appreciated by tho inmates and their friends. WORKERS' EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION. A meeting of tho Joint Committee of tho Workers' Educational Association, .■"iu-istinc of Professor Chilton.. Dr. Hight was instructed to. make enquiries as to suitable men who might be available to act as tutors. WALTHAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE, A meeting of the Walt-hum School Committee was hold on Wednesday. Present— Messrs C. V. Harvcv (chairman), T. Mortloek, S. D. Boslev, AY. Wraight, J. L. J"'™?, h - R. AVoodwa-rd. A. AVatkins. and R. A\aterson. Tlie headmaster reported the average attendance to be 635. and tho roll number 691. Messrs Harvcv and AVraight, who wore appointed a sub-committee at :.hc r.rcv;ct!S rneeiing, reported what asphalting was necessary round tho school to cany away and it was decided tiiat the work be attended to. The caretaker reported having done the usual school work. For many years past the school lias been swept out- doily with wet sawdust, and disinfected, thus avoiding, as lar as possible, anv risk of infection. It "as unanimously agreed that a letter of thanks bo «cnt to the headmaster for a contribution of £1 towards the School Honours Board.
SUMNER FIRE BRIGADE. A meeting ol the Surawr Fire Brigade was held last night, Superintendent Car.er presiding over a good muster. A letter wiLg received from Mr Lonffuet thaiikniß lie Brigade for their services at the recent ure. Superintendent Carter, who has recently returned from the conference at \Ycstport, gave » very full account of the proceedings there. The conference had unanimously decided to hold the- next demonstration at Sumner, and tho fourteen fire brigades had agreed to support the selection of the site, while I/abour Day was fixed for .the event. The Brigade agreed to submit the following programme to' the Canterbury Provincial Association for their approval:—One-man event, two-man event, three-man event, and five-man event. Tho secretary stated that a liberal prize list was being arranged lor. It was resolved to thank Messrs Gibbs and Adanig for assisting with the reels oy motor-cars at the recent fire on Clifton. Leave of absence was granted to Fireman "W. Baniford for three months. A vote of thanks was granted to Mr E. Donham Jor a gift of books. ACCOUNTANTS' STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION. The annual general meeting of tho Christchurch Accountants' Students' Society was held on Thursday evening. There was n. large attendunce, Mr TV. E. Best presiding. The report, and balance-sheet were adopted., and the following officers were elected: — President, MY J. Morrison; vice-presidents, M'essrs H. B. Best, B. Symes, R. T. Tosswill, "\V. S. Newburgh, H. Mcllraith; committee. Messrs G. M. Pottinger, F. Sutherland, C. Buchanan, H. S. Cook, "W S. Franklin, "W. E. Best; secretary, Mr R. 0. Hicks; treasurer, Mr W. A. Smith; auditor, Mr G. H. Christie. During the evening the honours board of members who have joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force was unveiled by the newly-elected president. Out of a membership of 70, 16 members have enlisted, their names being: —Messrs A. C. Barker. K. H. Brownlie, C. K. Dick, W. Dixon, V. M. Edgar, J. S. Glen, G. W. Gray, W. A. Hartley, H. O. F.
