HALSWELL.
The monthly meeting of the Halswell County Council was held on Tuesday, all the members being present. • Correspondence was read from Mr W. Weir complaining of a dam placed in a Cashmere drain- below his property. The dam was ordered to-be removed.* From Mr H. Sparks, asking that his name be placed on roll for No. 144 a—to be attended to. From same, asking to be allowed to remove soil from Reserve road —to Be informed he can take soil from HiUside road. From Controller and Auditor-General, forwarding Council 'balance-sheet for half-year ending 30th September, 1915, certified as correct.—Received. From Mr G. L. Donaldson, forwarding tickets for Queen Carnival. —Received. From North Canterbury Recruiting Board, asking the Council's assistance.'—Received. It was resolved that the clerk report at next meeting on the question of equalising the values of the ridings of the County: thj\t Mr D. Wells's request to clean ditch be not granted; that 10 per cent, be added to all rates outstanding after 28th inst; that -the Council take steps to promote an art i union for patriotic purposes.
