Sir,— Although th© correspondenco between Sir W. Hall-Jones and Mr Witty has been closed, I trust, in view of tho widespread interest it has aroused, that you will find Toom for a few remarkß on the general principle involved. Sir William's position is very similar to my own. I abhor, party government, and, like Sir William, am ready to support any Government that is ready to work for the best interests of the Dominion, as a whole. Tho_gb. not satisfied that it was the best possible, toy vote at the past two elections went''to tho Ward candidate, for the Teaso-a. that like many moro, I feared the Massey Party. Now, after two years experience of their administration F am determined) that if my vote and tbe votes of those I can influence, will keep them in power, have a further term of office- Mr Vigor frown, M.P. for Napier, is reported to have said, when explaining his conversion to "Liberalism" that "only fools and horses never change their minds, and that .as he was neither, he claimed the right to change his. .It ia_ evident, heWer, that Sir William Hall-Jones is neither a fool nor a horse, but neither has he changed his mind, but only nw opinion. He is prepared, he says, to support any G-vernment that is working for the good of all, and he, in common *-vith many others has* become convinced that the present Government is Avorking for the good of all, and, further ho is man enough to acknowledge it. Sh William has, at least, this'comfort, that the great thmking -public Arill recognise that he who will admit that even a former -oqlitical opponent may bo doing good work, is tr-uer to his "Liberal instincts than one who is bound to party, at whatever sacrifice of et*^
