DESECRATE A CHURCH
OUTRAGE AT BIRMINGHAM

Suffragettes, expecting the Judges of the Assize to attend Birmingham Cathedral to-day, secreted themselves after evensong on Saturday, and during the night painted over the side galleries, pillars, floors, and pew fronts, "Votes for women. Stop forcible feeding." The organ front was smashed, the pulpit disfigured, and "Votes for women' painted across the. centre of the magnificent Burne-Jones window. The vestry door was inscribed "The clergy must rise on our behalf." "THE NEW~IDEAL." Sylvia Pankhurst has been released. Suffragettes at Liverpool have formed a Church of the New Ideal, conducted solely by women. Men are admitted to the evening services only.
