WAIMATE.

The Waimate Racing Club appear to bo achieving the distinction ot Having one of the best-appointed courses m New Ze.i-iiid, for a one-day meeting. The most notable improvement for next Thursday's meeting is the motor entrance, situate about four chains beyond the main gate. It enables cars to be taken direct off the road into two paddocks set aside for vehicles. Mono but pedestrians will enter by the old gate. The eleventh annual meeting of tho South Canterbury District, 1.0.0.1., M.U., was held in the Oddfellows' Hall yesterday. All the lodges were fully represented, and P.G.M. Bro. Dash presided. The G.M.s address gavo figures showing that excellent progress was being made, thero being large increases in membership and iunds, the sick and general funds having increased by over £800 in the twelve months. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Pro v. G.M. Bro. W. Eichbaum (Loyal Timaru); P.D.G.M., Bro. J. Dempsey (Makikihi); auditor, Bro. H. | Dash (Heart of Friendship). The management levy was fixed at 6d. The place of the next meeting was fixed for Makikihi. A Past Grand Lodge was opened during the evening, and the purple degree was conferred on several members who were qualified to receive it.' The officers and visitors were entertained by tho local lodge at tea.

The Winter Show Committee met on Thursday. It was decided to order 200 poultry coons and 32 pigeon coops. On Thursday the Knox Church i'oung Women's Bible Class held their annual social, between 60 and 70 persons being present. Solos were sung by Mrs Morrison and Misses Smart and Cooper. Two competitions were the feature of the evening, the winners being Miss O. Cameron and Miss J. Smith, the booby t>rizes being won by Miss B. Smith and Mr Walker. After supper, a few games were indulged in.
