Captain Grant was a passenger for Wellington by last night's ierry steamer. Mr T. Pollard arrived from the North yesterday afternoon by the Mapourika. Mr J. Black, Mayor of Waimate, is visiting Christchurch. The Rev. James Flanagan, the English preacher and lecturer, who visited New Zealand five or six years ago returned to tho Dominion last wee_, and will conduct a mission in this city under the auspices of tho Central Methodist Mission from November 23rd to December Ist. In the Legislative Council yosterday, further leave of absence was granted to the Hon. C. Louisson on account of illness. Mrs Rogers, who has been a teacher at the Burwood Sunday School for 42 years, was last week presented with an illuminated address and a purse ...or sovereigns by old scholars in recognition ; of the faithful work done by her.
