The weather was fine and tho course hard for the first day of tho Tapanui R.C.s Annual Meeting. Thero was an attendance of 500. Results: —
MAIDEN PLATE, of 30 soys; five furlongs— Eidleform, Sst 4lb (McCombo), J ; Wild Pilgrim, 2. The only starters. Won easily. Time, lmin 4 l-sth sec. PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP, of 30 soys; six furlongs—Lady Margaret, 7st 2lb (Moore), 1; Penin, Gst 13ib. 2; Abo, 9st, 3. Officious 83t 4lb also started. Won by a nock. Time, lmin lGsec.
FIRST OPEN HANDICAP TROT (Optional), of 40 soys; one milo—Caberfeigh, 7 sec, 1; Evening Star, 3sec, 2; Vanity, scr, 3. Bellruth and King Patch wero scratched. Won by a length. Time, 2min 38sec. TAPANUI HANDICAP, of 50 soys; one milo and a quarter—King Torrent, 7st Blb (Olsen), 1; Wairaki, 7st -lib, 2; St. Aiden, 9st 7lb, 3. Oratava Sst Blb also started. Won by a nose. Time, 2min lOsec. KELSO HACK HANDICAP, of 80 soys; fivo furlongs—Sir Patrick, Sst 9lb, 1; Wild Pilgrim, Bst, 2; Sweet Ann, Sst, 3. Driftwood Bst 71b, Imatra Bst Blb, Maslava Sst, Robert Bell Set, and Royal Glen Sst aho started. Won by a length and a half. Time, lmin 3 4-sth sec.
DISTRICT TROT (in saddle), of 30 soys; ono mile and a half—Prejudice, 23sec, 1; Littlo Kate, 21sec, 2; Porangahau, 20scc, 3. All started. Won easily. Time, 3min 50 l-sth sec.
WELTER HANDICAP, of 30 soys; four furlongs—Otakeho, Sst 71b (Ellis), 1; Taft, Sst 91b. 2; Quota. Sst 121b, 3. Czar Kolohol lOst 10lb, Abo lOst 21b, Larkspur Pet 9lb, and Lord Frederick Sst Blb also started. Won by two lengths. Time, 50 4-sth sec.
GRAND STAND HANDICAP, of 35 soys; 6ix furlongs—Yid, 7st 91b (Olsen), 1; Aphaea, Sst 41b, 2; Lady Margaret, fet 10lb, 3. The only starters. Won easily. Time, lmiu lGsec.
