__ Steady rain sot in about 9 p.m. on Saturday last and continued throughout Sunday. Monday was fine, but towards evening tho sky had a threatening appearance in the Kouth-wc.sfc and rain came on again in tho evening. -During the wh_'o of Tuesday it continued to pour, but towards night it eased off again. The rain was accompanied by a cold south-west gale, and on the hills behind Tai Tapu a thick coat of snow was to be seen. The Hal«well river ,'s now -considerably abovo its normal level and all low-lying areas are under' water. Since Sunday 3.1-3 inches of rain have fallen- Tho cold woather has meant a reduced supply of milk at tho local factory, as tho cows aro going off quickly. Where pea, crops are hot yet- harvested—and there are a few still out —there will be littlo chance *-;f getting them dry, and considerable icss . will result. Potato digging will soon bo in full'swing when weather conditions permit.
