MAGISTRATES' COURT

(Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.). DRUNKENNESS.

Four male first offenders were oach fined os, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and ono female was convicted and discharged. Another female, for being helplessly drunk in Armagh street, was ordered medical expenses, 355, in default 14 days.

John Madden, a second offender, was convicted and discharged, on a charge of drunkenness. Alexander McDonald was convicted and fined 10s, for being found drunk in St. Asaph street. Thomas Edward Calvert was convicted of being found drunk in- Cathedral square, and declared to be an habitual inebriate. He was ordered to be detained at the Roto Roa Inebriates' Institution for twelve months for reformative treatment. James Simpson, for disorderly behaviour while drunk in Montreal street, was fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. SEVERAL CHARGES.

John Farrell, for drunkenness, was fined os, in default 34 hours' imprisonment. He was also convicted of having, on Bth April. 1912, refused to quit tho bar of tho New Zealander Hotel, when requested to do so by tho licensee. On a charge of using obscene lajiguage he was convicted and fined 40s, in default one month. For having, on the same date, wilfully damaged a cab window, of the value of ss, the property of one John Slattery. he was convicted and ordered to pay ,the damage, ss. in default 7 days' imprisonment. The sentences were made cumulative. INDECENT ASSAULT.

George William Deyell was charged with.having indecently assaulted a girl of between 12 and 1G years of age. He was remanded till the 11th inst. Bail was allowed, accused in £50 and one surety of £50.
