» RIVAL SYSTEMS. COMMONWEALTH GOVERNMENT TAKES A RISK. United Press Aseociation—By Electrio Telogrnph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 9. Mr Fraser,' Postmaster-General, has announced that after protracted negotiations, the Federal Government is unable to arrive at a position justifying the payment of tho patent rights • for cither the Marconi or tho Tele-' funken wireless system. The urgency of establishing wireless does not justify delaying any longer, and it is intended to erect stations round tho coast beginning at Melbourne, then at Hobart, and also connecting Port Moresby and either Cooktdwn or Thursday Island. The Government may bo compelled to defend the system which has been chosen for the Commonwealth. It 3 expert will register it, ■ and if it is found that the Government has infringed tho rights of other systems, tho Government will accept the responsibility of payment |for. such an infringement. LONDON, December 8. The Marconi Company has withdrawn its action against tho Telefunken Company, and has substituted another, including claims for infringement of tho Lodge patents.
