ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

The weekly stock sale was held at the Tinwald yards yesterday, when there was a very much larger entry of store sheep, and the attendance was a fairly good one. The total entry comprised 2856 sheep, of which 260 were fat ewes, 235 fat wethers, 92 fat lambs, and 2269 store sheep. The quality of the fat ewes yarded! was not up to those yarded of late, and prices receded, but wethers were exceptionally good, and prices were on a par with last week's rates. The yardine of fats comprised about equal numbers of ewes and wethers, and with ono exception, a small line of shorn two-tooths, which passed at 12s lid, the whole yarding of fats changed hands. The yarding of lambs was a small one, and prices were even lower than last week, the highest price reailised beins 14s 3d for a fairly prime} line. Prices obtained were as follows: —Shorn ewes, four and six-tooth, lis 9d to 13s Bd, butcher's ewes, prime quality, 12s Id to 13s Gd, others 8s lOd to lis lOd, woolly ewes 12s Id to 14s Id, shorn wethers, four and sixtooths, 14s lOd to 16s 9d, two-tooth 12s to 14s, woolly Merino wethers 10s 6d, fat lambs 12s lOd to 14s 3d, light weights 9s 8d to 10s. There was a decided improvement in the yarding of store sheep, but there was no demand, and sales were few, over half the yarding being passed in. Sales were 46 fullmouth three-quarter bred shorn ewes, and 60 lambs (all counted) 6s, 107 fullmouthed Merino woolly ewes, and 73 lambs (ditto) Gs 4d, 70 two-tootb shorn (mostly wethers) 8s 9d, 310 ditto 8s 7d, 75 ditto (wethers) 9s Id, 206 ditto (mixed sexes) 8s 3d, 19 full-mouth half-bred woolly ewes, and 19 lambs ditto 6s 6d. There was a large yarding of cattle, and a good clearance was effected, prices for fats showed a decline, but dairy cattle were firmer. Prices were:—Fat steers, £2 7s 6d to £8 12s 6d; fat herTers, £3 12s 6d to £o 7s 6d; fat cows, £4 5s to £6 17is 6d ; vealers, 32s 6d; cows springing, £8 7s Gd; heifers springing. £7 los to £8 ss; cows in full nrofit. £4 7s. Gd; cows in calf. £4 17s 6d to £5; cows (empty), £4; young stores, 30s: store steers, £3 ss; store heifers, £3 7s.
