MR BOWLING'S OBJECTION

(Received December 23rd, 12.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 22. Thc first sitting of the Compulsory Conciliation Board to enquire into tho coalniincrs' dispute at Newcastle opened to-day. Mr Bowling, who appeared for the miners, objected to Mr John Pa torso rt (president of the Federated Coal and •Shale Workers) sitting on the Board, as lie did not represent the Colliery Employees' Federation at all. Mr Paterson, Mr Bowling eleclared, had taken tho position without consulting the men, and hael betrayed the trust reposed in him. Mr Bowling a&kcd f';r an adjournment to enable his Federation to consider the position in regard to the Board's jurisdiction. Judge Heydon remarked that the question .*._ to Mr Paterson's position on the Board was unassailable. The sitting was adjourned to January 10th.
