The Government is sending relief, and is also assisting men to leave the Barrier. JAPAN'S WAR DEBT. The Government agent in the East reports that the late war saddled Japan with a debt amounting to £180,000,0u0, raised by pubiio loan. It is expected that it will be redeemed in 30 years. Mr Ryan, tho Labour candidate, was eleoted for the Torre—s seat vacancy, owing to th© death 'of Mr Thomas Price, but the majority for Labour was materially reduoed. SAW r MILLING DEPRESSION IN TASMANIA. HOBART, July 6. The sawmillers attribute th© depression in the timber trade to Japanese and Siberian pine logs being allowed in free. Mrs Robert Brough was quietly mari ri©d to-day to Mr Bell, an electrician. FEDERAL PARLIAMENT. MELBOURNE, July 6. The censure debate was resumed today. Mr Deakin appealed to the Opposition to condense.their observations so as to giv© the Government a chance of getting to th© business of the session. The appeal was received with laughter. There is little chance of it being complied with.
