INVERCARGILT., April 3D. At a mooting of the Southland Excv cutive of the FarmoiV Un on, the following (among other) remits to bo submitted to the Annual Conference wero received :• -That a protest be entered against ihe alteration of the size of grain sucks. That strong exception be taken to the action of the Southland Acclimatisition Society in securing the protection of hares. That imported timber be placed on trie free list, and no distinction to made in railway charges as between imported and New | Zealand timber. T'r.t steps be t'-ikeu to secure the immigration of suitable [ farm servants, especially of pljughmen. ' 'J'Tiat when valuations are being made, a valuer should be appointed in the farmers to act in conjunction with the Government Valuer. That taxation on hind and on money lent on l»nd be pat on a more equitable basis. One branch will submit a motion regretting tlie New Zealand Dreadnought offer being made without first consulting Parliament. The Executive will submit that the contract system of public works be reverted to, as being more t-atisfact.-i'y than the co-operative system. That injustico is caused by the taxation of growing flax. That a protest lie entered against the continual increase in valuation of unimproved rural lands. That, the Government be urged to amend the law so n's to enable every &ftrier to have the option of acquiring tho freehold of Lands for Settlement lands. It is understood that the dairy regulations will be generally reviewed and dealt with.
