THE SHEPHERD'S BUSH EXHIBITION.
♦ • Tho samples of grain being collected by Mr A. Macpherson, .supervisor of experimental crops, South Island, for exiiibition at the Shepherd's i3ush (London) Kxhibition, are at present being prepared in this city for shipment by Messrs Lambert and Stainiell, of the Department of 'Agriculture, and assistants. To date between fifty and seventy farmers in .Mid and South Canterbury and North Otago 'have forwarded samples of oats, wheat, and barley. Tho larger number of samples aro of wheat. All the samples aro being carefully gone through, inferior heads with insufficiently iilled ears aro being taken out, and special attention is being paid to the colour and nizo of ear. Each sample is, however, being made up from tho iirairi sent by ono farmer, and there is no combining of the products of different farms in the ono exhibit. Tho sheave-s aro being cut to ono uniform length, in order that they will be able to stand upright. Somo of the samples of oats aro about six feet high. Very Jittlo barley, has, as yot, come to hand. The cases containing the grain for tho Exhibition aro expected to- bo in Wellington before tho end of the present month. For every two sheaves to be sent Homo, ono sheaf of tho same grain is being prepared for exhibition at the Duucdin Win tor Show. The- grain sent from the South Island should give the visitors to tho Shepherd's Bush Exhibition an excellent impression of the grain-growing capabilities of this part of tho Dominion.
