Mr diunro said it would bo useless to make a ''scare. ' as the chaff had been traced, and he suggested M-ithholdiiig the facts from publication until tho matter had been seti.'.eel, adding that the whole of t-he- ci;.- ff ••vould probably be destroyed. The riiot.s, however, have been bruited abroad. Endeavours are now being made to havo the whole of T.ho ciliaff bought by the Government and destroyed, thus preventing the pest from o-ver-r aiming the district. It is sup* gested that the Noxious Wood, Act should be amended to enahle jn.--.nc_tors to deal with a case of this _f_s_ription.
