Il was resolved to comply with the request. The secretary of the Municipal Association wrote advising that the conference of delegates would bo held in the Council Chamber, Wellington, on Monday, August lird. Tho letter was received.

Mr A. Appleby Mroto suggesting that Model street should be widened to, say, 40ft, in lieu of ~-lft, as at present. The letter was referred to tho Works Committee to report. The (Secretary of tho City and Suburban Burgesses Association Mrote stating that his Association desired to endorse the suggestion of tiie Papanui Progress Committee that the City Council should endeavour to have tho telegraph and telephone poles within Greater Christchurch painted white lor 6ix feet from tho ground. The letter M-as referred to tlio Works Committee.

The secretary of the Limvood Citizens' Association wrote stating that a motion bad boon carried calling tno Council's attention that a balance of nearly £500 existed on the £10 /JM loan raised in May, 1900, for the purpooo of sueot formation and channelling in Litnvood, while a portion of tho Canal Hfsorve, Rolleston street, and tho River road still remained unformed and uiiciKinnelled. The Association also suggested that the numo '"Canal Reserve" suoiild be changed, so far as the city boundary between Aldwin's Road and the river was concerned, to Edward avenue. The letter was referred to the Works Committee for report. COMMITTEE REPORTS. The By-laws Committee recommended that the Town Clerk should be instructed to arrange for the completion of the numboring of houses in the city. The Reserves Committee reported that it had considered tho application from tho Ckristchurch Prohibition League for permission to hold open-air meetings in Victoria Square and uso the band rotunda as a platform, and hud resolved that it did not think it advisable to facilitate tho holding of public meetings in that square. The committee recommended that separate tenders should bo invited for loasing tho Bromley and Bottle Lake reserves : for a period of seven years, the leases to provide that tho Council might, if it so deeired, resume not more than onethird of the reserves for planting purposes. Tho Works Committee reported that a deputation representing the carters who came under tho provisions of the heavy traffic by-laws in force in the borough of Woolston and tho Heathcoto Road District waited upon the committee at its last mooting, and asked for tho co-operation of the Council in obtaining an amendment in the law ennblin£ tho city or the Selwyn County Council to issue licensee under the heavy traffic by-laws, which would run through all surrounding districts (similarly to vehicle licenses. The committee recommended that the Council should Forward a remit for consideration at the next Municipal Conference recommending that the largest city or borough amongst adjoining boroughs should be the licensing and controlling authority for the collection of fees under heavy traffic by-laws, and that the fees collected should bo apportioned among the contiguous local authorities upon a population basis. The reports were adopted. MISCELLANEOUS.

Cr. Williams complained of the narrowness of the temporary footway in front of the White Hart building.

Crs. Morris anel Taylor pointed out that the footway had been placed well out in view of the tlanger to he anprehendod from the old wall, and had been kept narrow in order to tako up as little road space as possible. A motion to refer the matter to the By-laws Committee was lost. "On the motion of Cr. Forrester, it was decided to refer to the Sanitary Committee tho question of installim, sanitary convenience** in Sydenham Park, adjoining tho old municipal buildings.
