MERIVALE v. OLD BOYS.

Merivalo defeated Old Boys on the west ground at Lancaster Park by 11 points to nil, after a very interesting game. Soon after the commencement. Lawrence kicked the ball un to Merivale's goal line, and J. Guthrie was in the act of running over when he was blocked by the Merivale hacks. After loose play, a scrum ensued, and Woods kicking into centre, Shanks followed

up fast, and headed a loose rush into the Old Boys' territory. Old Boys were now in trouble, but D. Guthrie and Kinvig relieved. Attempted passing by the Old Boys' backs was resuhloss, and Ford intercepting had a clear run in. Fuller failed to convert. Old Boys were again on the de-, tensive after the kick out, and' fast following up by Fuller and passing by the Morivalo backs again took play to the Old Boys' line. Clcary obtained the oval, and feinting to pass to Fuller, dodged over the line between the posts, Fuller converting. A passing rush between J. Guthrie, Kinvig and Deans looked as though the last-named would score: but Fuller brought him down, and the ball was kicked back to Lawrence, who was tackled hot ore he could kick. Merivale at this stage appeared dangerous, but J. Guthrie came to the rescue and kicked out. From a mark by I). Guthrie play was taken to Merivale's twenty-five, and later, from a kick by Lawrence, Merivale were compelled to force. Just before the interval, (Juiney, by a good run, placed Merivale on the detensive, and later Piki forced.

Play remained in the centre for some time after the second spell opened: but a good run by P. Menzies had Old Bo*-s defending. Piki was given the ball a little la;er, but he kicked too bard, and a force resulted. A rush, headed by J. Guthrie, shifted play into Merivulo's quarters, where Old lioys were awarded a free kick. Bain had a ehot at goal, which proved unsuccessful Passing riwlies. in which P. Menzies, Wood, Fuller, and Piki wore prominent, kept play in the Whites' twentyfive, where a series of scrums were ordered. \V. Menzies was successiul in getting the ball in the loose play that followed, and scored. Reid failed to odd the major points. Play was up and down the field from this onwards, neither side being .successful in scoring. Mr G. Matthews was referee. JUNIOR FLAG. 3'lerivale defeated Old Boys, at -the North Park, by f) points to 3. For ihe winners. Cre.swoll, Bikiiff and J. lingers scored trie*. Uoag scored for the losers. Sydenham defeated Albion by IS points to nil. For tho winners, .dahoney (2). Watson. Thomas and Love scored tries, and Sinclair dropped a goal from a mark. Christchureh defeated Canterbury College by 2-1 points to 3. Fisher '3), F. Jones, Tuns, Hamilton end iJcCully scored tries. Fisher kicked a penalty goal and converted two '.ri-. , 5, and A. Jones converted one. Mcl.eod scored for Canterbury College.

Playing on their own ground, Lyttelton Pirates defeated Linwood by 0 points to nil. For the winners. \V. Read (2) and A. Morrriss (1) .scored. Tho ground was very heavy and the game a fast one. Mr Cocayne was referee.
