GLENMARK MEMORIAL CHURCH.

CONSECRATION SERVICE

Yesterday the consecration of the Church on the Gleremark Esteto by Bishop Julius was carried out rathe presence of a large congregation, large numbers having availed themselves of the specinl train from town. The Church, of brick with ■vrhito etono racings, forming a Gothic design, is situated between Waipara and Omihi. The interior has been handsomely finished. In tho chancel is a iine eta.mod glass window representing St. Paul preaching, which is erected to the inomory of Mr Geo. H. Moore, and in the south transept is an equally effective window of coloured jjla&s representing the Transfiguration, erected to the memory of Dr. J. H. Townend. There ie also n third window wirtfo tinted lights to bo known, as t'he Omihi Settlers' window. A two manual pipe organ, by Norman and Beard, of London, is placed in the south transept. The power is provided by c small electric motor. iMr C. Tendull is the organist. Tho building can. be lighted by electricity by fifty-two sixteen candle-power lamps, and there is abo a powerful electric light on tho outRide of tho bolfry. Tho tower, risin« 80ft, contains eight tabular bells, on which the peals and chimes oan b» made with effective musical variations.

Adjacent to tho Church, is the vicarage, occupied by tho Rev. Walter Dunkloy. who was inducted as vicar to the parish in July last. The buildings, etc., cost over £25.000. The Churcu was designed by Mr A. 11. Hart, and tho contractor was Mr W. Goss. of Chrietchnrch. Mr G. P. Cronib supervised tho internal decorations, etc.

Hie Lordship tho Bishop was attended by Canons Pasooo and CViates, tho Revs. Jasper Smytho, J. Hollimd, C. H. Goßsett, W. Sedgwicli, A. P. Prichard, T. Hamilton, H. Purchas, A. G. ForlKJs, and E. C. W. Powell; also by tho Rev. P. B. Haggitt, precentor, and -twelve senior and twenty juniors of tho Cathedral Choir. Tho Bishop and his chaplain, wore mot at tho wesi door by tho Roy. W. The congregation remained throughout the celebration of Holy Communion, and til! the recessional hymn was j;ung. Upwards of throe hundred and twenty were entertained at lunch in a large marquee. Dr. Fox here announced that the Omihi settlers wished to assure Mrs Townend of their high appreciation of the beneficence shown, and had asked [>prmiss : on to place a memorial window in token of the same. The Vicar announced that a presentation was to have been made to the Rev. 0. A. Toiiin, but ho was too UJ to attend.

In the afternoon Dr. J. C. Bradshaw garo an organ rocital. The qualities of the organ wore fully brought out. and the instrument was pronounced by competent musicians to Lo one of the host in Canterbury. After t-lio rfoital. afternoon tea was provided.
