TIMARU.
Our Timaru correspondent writes: — Tho wheat market has quietened down once more, and tho best price obtainable to-day is 4s 3d. Very few sales are, however, being mado, tho speculators who were operating having coased buying. One big grower of grein who has held his wheat for the past three yoars. disposed of it this season, just before the boom set in, when ho accepted'3s 3d per bushel for the lot. The oat market is easier than it was, in sympathy with the Southland market. No outside orders are being received, and only on occasional order is being sent from tho North Island. Farmers are asking 3s, but 2s 10d to 2s lid is all that merchants nre prepared to give, except, perhaps, for line.* of A grade Duns, which nre worth a penny more. It is impossible to give a reliable quotation for fowl wheat, as there 13 none on sale, but broken seconds are worth 3s 8d at country stations. Tho potato market is not quite so firm as it was, prices having dropped back from £4 and £4 os to £3 10s and £3 17s 6*l per ton.
