The Mayor (tho Hon. Sir John Hall) leaves town to-day for Hororata for a couple of days. Th© citizens of Invercargill desired to organise a function in lionour of Sir Joseph Ward, but the Premier telegraphed stating that it would be impossible for him to visit Invercargill before tho se6sioQi'. Tho Government has appointed Mr Frank lteid to succeed Mr John Haycts as Inspecting Engineer to tho Mines Department. Mr M. P. Atkinson (Wellington), Mr D. Roes (Wellington), Mr C. F. Wilson, Mr G. D. Bea-tson (Hawko's Bay), Mr W. D. Gerlmm (Wellington), Mr H. M. Ch-sholm (Auckland), Mr It. F. Elks (Wellington), Mr R. B. Grange (Sydney), Mr T. W. Doolan (Port Levy), Mr Leo. Parkinson (Mount Aifcken), MrW. - Triflit (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs lutzrsrald (Dunexlin), Mr C. W. Reardon (Dunedin), Mrs Rhodes (BHuodiffis), Miss Ulrich, Mrs T. A. Phillips (Windwhistle), and Mr A. K. Firth are visit ore to town. Mrs W. S. Bean and Mrs W. Jameson. Mr It. A. Anderson, and Mr Caselberg left for Wellington by the Wimmera last night. Mr and Mrs R. J. Mason, Mr and Mrs M. Harris, Mr George Lambie, Mr C. H. Aker, and the Misses Aker (2), and Mrs A. Dudley Dobson loft for Sydney by the Wimmera yesterday. The Rev. S. J. Garlick left for Melbourne by the Mooraki yesterday. Mr Wood, Mr Orjjon Stevens , Mr Bloustein, Mr J. N. rT'dhols, Mr Baumgart, Mr Tennent, Mr Wigley, ami Mr Hayman left for Wellington by tlie Rotomahana last night. Mr J. A. Hanan, M.H.R. for Invercargill, who Ls at present on a visit to Christchurch, returns to the south ruecst week. On Tuesday evening last, at the close of the final lecture of the session, Dr; Newell, instructor to tlie Lyttelton Ambulance Class, was presented by the members with an ebony walking-stick suitably inscribed, as a token of esteem. Mr Georgo King has been appointed a local director of tho Norwich Union Firo Insurance Society. Mr C. H. Reynolds, general manager of the Pacific Cable Board, is at present on a visit to New Zealand. Mr Frank Rout waa the recipient of a presentation from his co-workers in the "Press" yesterday. Mr F. Board, the foreman printer, on behalf df tho men, presented Mr Rout with a handbag and silver-mounted cigarette case, and in doing so pxpressed'their wish for the success of Mr Rout in his ,new sphere of labour in the North Island. Prior to his departure for Oamaru, to which place he is removing to tako up a "responsible position in tho Now Zealand Loan anict Mercantile Agency Compeuny, Ltd., a number of his friends met J\lr F. Oorbett, and presented him with a gold chain and sovereign caso. Mr J. J. Adams, head master cf the Papanni School, and late finst assista*n'b master at Waltham, was presented by the old hoys of the Waltham school last evening •with <a handsome piece of plate, artistically inscribed, as a mark of their appreciation acd respect. Special reference was made to the manner in which Mrr Adams assisted and encouraged sport while at Waltham.
