THE ASSOCIATION GAME.
The match between the Swifts Club (Wellington) and tho Celtic F.C. (Christchurch), played on Saturday in , the South Park, resulted in a win for the home team by 5 goals to 4 goals. Play was greatly affected by the wind, whioh was blowing right down the field. The home team won the toss and took advantage of the breeze. iSwiffcs got to work quickly, aud Taylor coon scored. Celtic were not long in equalising matters, Bligh scoring the point, and for the remainder of the first epdl they continued to add to their score Harvey headed a goal from a. corner, and later Raeburn put in a nice shot from the left wins, landing the ball right in the goal, Wood rushing it through. Harvey, wJio was working hard, scored tho Celtic's, fourth and fifth goals in quick suoooseion. On changing ends, the visitors, playing with the wind, were not long in scoring, a goal by Waddell coming first. White, with perhaps the best kick of th« match, a'very fast low sliot, scored « third goal for the Swifts, and later Taylor, addod the ' foii'rtTi and final from a good centre. For tho winners, Ramsay, MoCreanor, Raeburn and Harvoy, showed to advantage, and for the Swifts," W«ddell, White and Porks, were perhaps .the best. Barry- and fioddos are a quick and skilful left wing, but on Saturday their opponents Mere too heavy for thorn. Mr B. L. Salmon, of Wellington, controlled tho game. To-day tho Swifts play a combined team from the Chrifitchuich and Sydenham Clubs, in tho South Park, at 11 a.m.
