ALHAMBRA (DUNEDIN) v MERIVALE.

The annual match between the above clubs was played cm the south ground. Morivalo started proceedings, kicking off against a strong wind, the return being in neutral territory. A srood forward rush by tho Blues placed tbo Dunedin team on the defensive, Drydon relieving with a nice kick from a mark. Fumbling by the local backs gave the Alhambra backs a chance, Bennet losing a good opportunity by clinging to the ball. Fuller was conepicuous in removing danger, and a rush by the local forwards took play to the visitors' twenty-five. From a ponaltv, Bardingham had a long shot at goal, forcing the Reds. After give-and-take play, the ball went down in the Mcrivale quarters, but a free kick against tho home team was not improved upon. A passing rush by the Dunedin backs was cleverly intercepted by Fuller, who regained the lost ground. Miles and \oung were prominent for some good play, the former losing a capital chance by over-running the ball. Given was conspicuous in relieving the visitors' line, but P. Menzies put in a good run, and passing out to Fuller, the latter found touch well in Alhatnbra's quarters. Hardingham had another shot from a penalty, the ball being charged down. A rush by the visiting forwards was stopped by Woods. The first spell ended in Merivale attacking. Nelson restarted the game for the visitors, Miles's return eoing into touch at the corner flag. From the line out, Bond obtained possession, «nd dodged over, biifc Hardingham failed to improve. A?cer this the Alhambra team rallied, and nkycd a fine game, Given and King" being prominent. Diydon started several pacing rushes, but the Merivalo defence was excellent, Ford being especially noticeable. A parsing rush hv the Reds gavo the home backs trouble, Bennet losing a good opportunity by failing to pass. Rush removed play to the other end, forcing Alhambra. by vi fine dribble. After having a shot from a penalty, the visitors kept attacking, though their efforts were fruitless, Merivale thus winning by 3 points to nil. Mr Saxton controlled the game.
