Notes in circulation £26,987,000. Public deposits £16,430,000, other deposit* £38,612,000. Government securities £15,604,000, other securities £27,309,000. Consols 90 13-l'6ths, New South Wales 3 per cents, 90. Other stocks are unchanged. Flour is quiet and firm. The London quotation is 25s Gd to 265, Glasgow 26s 3d to 26s 9d. A cargo of South Australian off the coast is held for 24s 6d. The wheat markets are steady. Trade is dull, owing to the heavier shipments, especially River Plate. If sales are pressed a decline will ensue. Cargoes are quiet. Ono cargo and 5500 quarters of Victorian February-March shipment sold at 335, and a cargo and 11,000 quarters of January-February shipment at 32s lO.d. Holders are asking 32s 9d to 33s 3d for a shipmoot of Australian. New Zealand spot is exhausted. Freights aro quiet; 23s is. bid for handy March tonnage from Victoria, and for small vessels from South Australia 23s 9d. Butter is steady and in fair demand. Danish is unchanged, New Zealand' 102s to 103s, Australian 100s to 101s. Cheese is dull;. New Zealand 60s to 51s. Copper, on spot £68 lis 3d, three months £68 18s 9d. Tin, on spot £131 17s 6d, three months £131 7s 6d. Iron 48s 2d. Lead £12 8s 9d. Spelter £24 lis 3d. Silver 2s 3 11-16 d. Sugar is dull, first marks 17s Id, German 15s sd. At Bradford wool is quiet. At the sheep skin sales there was better inquiry; 8812 were offered and sold. Good competition. Merino, fine crossbred- Jd to id lower; coarse jd to Id lower Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received tho following cable messages from their London office dated February 23rd and 24th:— " The wheat market is firm with more disposition to operate, and prices are the dearer. Since our last telegram price.**- of combing merino sheepskins are lower by id to Jd per lb. Shorn pelts are unchanged. Fine crossbred sheepskins are lower by }d to _d, medium ditto by _d to |d, and coarse ditto by id to Id per lb. Since our last telegram nrices of butter at Copenhagen are unchanged. The market is quiet. Prices of hides are rather lower. Leather is very fijui. Basils are somewhat easier, especially for inferior descriptions." The following cable message has been received from Messrs W. Weddei and Co., London, reporting on the meat market at Smithfield:—Prime North Canterbury mutton 4Jd„market quiet; primo Wellington mutton 4d, market quiet; Sydney mutton 3d, market quiet; prime New Zealand lambs Gid, market steady; beef, oxen fores 2}d, market quiet; beef, oxen hinds 3d, market i quiet. j
