SATURDAY'S MATCHES. Beautiful weather was experienced for Saturday's cricket, and the wickets were iv fine order, bo the -batsmen bad the advantage, but - tho - scoring iv the Senior games was hardly up to the average. There was a large attendance at Hagley Pork to witness the finish of the Midland-Lancaster Park Senior game, tbe former winning comfortably, while at Sydenham the local team easily defeated the United. Details: — SENIOR OUP. 1 SYDENHAM v UNITED. llie match between the above Clubs was brought to a conclusion *t Sydenham on Saturday, when the home team won by an innings and 56 runs. On the opening day the United had been dismissed for 54, while Sydenham bad practically made defeat out of tho question by running up 160 for the loss of oaly four wickets, Wigley being 76 not out, and Frankish 14 not out Tbe latter only added a couple to his score before he was given out leg before wicket to Sima. Kinvig then assisted Wigley to-carry the total to 193 before the latter was given out leg before wicket, and retired with a well-played 89 against his name. - Kinvig left soon after for a freely played 27, which included five 4>, and the rest failing to make much of a stand, the innings closed for 228. The United fielding was better lb an on the first day, and OUivier bowled very well, his average for the innings being six wickets for 37 runs. In a minority of 174, the United commenced their second innings with T. D. Harmon and Fisher, F. S. Prankish and Bennett having charge of the attack. With the score at 15 the United captain was bowled, and the wickets fell at short intervals, until tbe last man was disposed of with the score at 118. Sims was top scorer with a well played 50, while OHivier and Fisher also batted well, but the others did but little against the bowling of Bennett, who secured -the good average of five wickets for 31 runs. On tlw first day tho Lancastrians had made 176, and the MidlandeTs had 36 up without the loss of a wicket. Whitta and H. Lawrence, tbe two not out*, resumed batting, and carried tbe score to 79 before the Ist* ter stopped a straight one with his leg, and retired for an excellently played 44. Whitta soon followed him, having played slow but sound cricket for 32, The next three wickets soon fell, but Garrard and Wheatley then got together, and quickly pus the issue beyond doubt. Tbe Midland skipper batted in his best style, and Wheatley also showed good form. Later on Costelloe played a good innings of 38 not out, and tlie venture closed for 231. Callaway, Howell and R. Ridky all bowled well, and they were supported by good fielding. Tho Lancastrians went in a second time, bnti no lengthened stand was. made, and batting two men short the innings closed for 85. The Midland-Rivals game was won rather easily by the former team by seven wioketo. The scores on the first day were : t —Midland 79 and Rivals 86 and 6 for three wickets. In their second innings Rivals scored 69 (McOlelland 30, Fraser 17), and Midland lost three wickets in compiling 80 runs (Barry 35 not out, Weston 18). O'Farrell and Weston for the winners, and Jack for Rivals were the best of the bowlers. In, the Lancaster Park-United match the United had made 133,' whilst the Lancastrians bad mode 116 for five wickets. Tile latter easily passed the United total, and carried their total to 206. Atkinson played a fine innings of 73 not out. Saxton (20), Toomer (21), and Jackman (16) were the highest of the other. Peoples and Vernon were the most successful bowlers. The United in their second attempt made 206 (Harper 37, Talbot 27, Vernon 23, Hair 22, Clarkson 22, Smith 20, and AHken 15). Atkinson and North were the best of the bowlers. United B team beat Sydenham at Hagley Park by 22 runs. Scores: —United Ito and 99 (Crichton 29, HartJand 27, and Louisson 11); Sydenham 61 and 162 (Ogier 43, Ritchie 38, Paterson 17, Gibson 16, Patrick 14, and Ockleshaw 13). Ballantyne and Trishler bowled best for the United, and for Sydenham Young took nine wickets for 44 runs in tbe second innings. PRESIDENT'S GUP. High School £»cored a win against Rivals by two wickets. The scores were: —Rivali 61 and 55; High School 49 and YO for eight wickets (Dinglo 21, Carter 13 not out, Bevan-Brown 10 not out, and Mason 10). Moon did the hat trick for Rivals.
Christ's College beat St. Mary's on the College ground by an innings and 165 runs, after declaring their innings closed with five wickets down. Scores:—St. Mary's 64 and 146 (Hunt 49, Crooiin 25, and Hart 20); College 366 for five* wickets (Wood 159, Harper 78, Boulnois 36 not out, Fryer 27, and Townend 26). Harper bowled best for tbe winners.
Midland defeated the United by 184 runs on the first innings. Scores: —United 59 and 254 for seven wickets (Virtue 90 not out, Martin 63, Middleton 35, Bain 24, and Lightband i.o); Midland 242 (Barge 49 and _vans 30). Fulton and Frankish bowled best for United, and Evans for Midland.
VICE-PRESIDENTS CUP MATCHES. Midland A team beat Midland B by 79 runs, scoring 74 and 168 for four wickets, innings declared closed, to 110 end 63 by the, losers. ,:
Christ's College defeated Sydenham and Addington Bbv 117 runs. Scores: — College 76 and |194 {Jenkins 96); Sydenham 58 and 95. ' '* The match between the High School and Lancaster Park was won by the former by six wickets. other Batches. A match was played at Sydenham Park on Saturday between tbe "Postmen." and a team from the Sydenham and Addington Cricket Club, and was won by the latter by 64 runs. Postmen 90, Sydenham and Addington 154 (Cox 41, Grammes- 32, Aylihg 29, and Malcolm 13), played best for Sydenham. ■ Aitken 37, and Thiele 25, for the Postmen. Grammer bowled well for Sydenham, and Graham and Hulberfc for the losers. ASHLEY COUNTY" ASSOCIATION. In the match Kowai against. Kaiapoi B, the former won. with a score of 185 (Marsh 69, Vallance 67, Mason, 11), against Kaiapoi's 90 (Blackwell 32, Crawsbaw 26, Wilson 11 not out). Vallance for the winners, and Blackwell (four for 6) and Wilson bowled well. The Rangiora eleven beat Gust by 149 runs. The scores were:—Rangiora 172 (H. Wilson 98, J. Macdootld 22, Jordan 20, and Gulliver 10); Cust 23 (R. H. Atkinson 8. Nankiville 8). Gulliver and H. Wilson were successful bowlers for the winners, and R. Atkinson bowled well for the losers. INTERPROVINCIAL PRACTICES. The Canterbury selector has chosen the following players to practice for the interprovincial matches against Otago, Wellington, Auckland, and Hawke's Bay:—Bennett, Bcdjington, Blunden, Baxshall, Callaway, Frankish (2), Garrard, Hammond, Howcil, Kinvig, Lawrence (2), Ollivier, Orchard, Pearce, Reese, Ridley (2), Sims, Strange, Weston, Whitta, and Wigley. Training will commence at Hagley Pari: at 4.30 p.m. to-day. DUNEDIN MATCHES. (SKCUa TO "THE PKISV') DUNEDIN, November 29. _ Splendid weather prevailed for to-day's cricket. In tbe match between Albion and Grange the former lost six wickets for 67, of which aumbar Williams contributed 44.
