THE CHEVIOT RAILWAY DAMAGED BY RAIN.

(SPECIAL TO "TIIE PRESS.") CHEVIOT, September 18. Owing to tho present heavy rain, somewhat severe slips have occurred on tho Wai-para-Cheviot railway works to the north of the Hurunui river. A road formed on the hillside above the proposed railway line has, in places, slipped away on to the railway side-cuttings, and filled these in again in places. The gang who had been working on a railway cutting for a considerable time had their tools and work completely buried. As the rain still continues, it is feared that more damage will be done.
