CANTERBURY v AUCKLAND. The following arc the teams for to-day's match at Lancaster Park: Canterbury (Red and Black):— Full-back, 0. Manning; three-quarters, P. Menzies, W. Woods, I). McGregor; five-eighths, M. E. Wood (captain), R. Deans; half-back, P. Harvey; forwards, G. Matthews. W. Duggan, B. Fanning, J. Mahoney, J. Roddick, G. Evans, L. Atkinson, and R. J. Cooke. Auckland (Blue and White)—Full-back. E. Sutherland; three-quarters, A. Asher, W. Harrison, W. G. McKenzie; tiveeighths, R, McGregor (captain), H. Phelan; half-back. P. Gerraxd; forwards, \V. Doran, G. Tyler, D. Gallaher, P. Long, J. Lewis, G. Nicholson, C. Eaton, and 11. Hayward. Mr A. Campbell, of Wellington will be referee. Owing to Rice being unable to play for Canterbury to-day, his place at centre-three-quarter will be filled by W. Woods, of the Merivale Club. Harvey and Cooke are slightly indisposed, but it is hoped that they will be well enough to play. The Aucklanders are very confident of winning, but as the local team also think that, after defeating Wellington last Saturday, they have a good chance, a close game should be witnessed. R. MeDutf, of the Auckland team, has had to return home, on account of urgent business, and P. King has also had to go North, owing to a family bereavement. At Ashburton, on Thursday, the Excelsior football team won the Junior coinpetion by default, the Southern Cross team not putting in an appearance. The following have been selected to represent the North Canterbury Infantry Battalion in the football match against the E Battery at Lancaster Park on the 26th hist.: --Full-back, Pratt; three-quar-ters, Turkington, Voyce; five-eighths, McGregor; half, Woods; forwards, West, Webster, Caughley, Tribe, Watson, Carman, Pender; wings, Riach, McQuillan. Emergencies, Willis and Baxter. (press association telegram.) WANGANUI, 'September 18. The Wanganui Rugby Union to-night resolved, with regard to the proposed amalgamation of the Unions in the Wellington province, to inform the Wellington Union that until Wellington pays Wanganui me visit owing, Wanganui will not entertain any amalgamation proposals. The Wanganui team leave on Monday, 21st ins-t, and play the Bush Union on Tuesday, Horowhenua on Thursday, and Manawatu on Saturday.
