LINWOOD v HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS.
Linwood (Greens) met the High School Old Boys on the south ground at Lancaster Pork, and after a fairly interesting gam* the former team won by 15 points (v potted goal, and a goal from a try, and two tries) to nil. The Greens kicked off against a strong wind, and forward play by their men placed the Old Boys on the d.fen:-ive- A kick by one of the latter's buck division, however, i'orocd Linwood. Tlit High School next got on a loose rush, which for some time threatened the Or/ens' goal-line. The Linwood backs then essayed a pawing run, which was spoiled by Revel]. Soon after this McGregor secured the ball in some loose play, and scored rather an easy try, Fraser failing with the kick. Piay was then indecisive for a time, till Smith secured the ball from a scrum, and a lwssing run in which he, Fraser, Ormondy, and Reyell, and McGregor engaged carried the ball into the Old Boys' twenty-five, and after an exchange of kicks Fraser made an unsuccessful attempt at a goal from a mark. At the call of time play was in tlie centre of the field. On resuming, the Old Boys were kept hard at work defending their territory, till Fraser prettily potted a goal. Almost* immediately Revell endeavoured to repeat the Linwood five-eighth's performance, but was unsuccessful. A good deal of scrambling and loose work, advantageous to the Greens, was then witnessed, and from a line-out dangerously close to the Old Boys' goal-line, Comes secured the ball and scored a try. McGregor failed to convert. A few "minutes afterwards the Linwood forwards again became aggressive, and the consequence was t-liat Bruusden crossed the line, Fraser kicking an easy goal. After the kick off the Old Boys rallied, and Linwood were compelled to act on the defensive. The former's efforts were futile, however, and when time was railed they had registered no score. The referee was Mr Geo. Bush.
