SPRINGS.
The annual meeting of ratepayers of this dis-triot was held at the office on Thursday, 7th inst., seven ratepayers only being present. Mr Wolfe, chairman of the Board, presided. Tlie Clerk read the report, cert—ied balance-sheet, and a detailed statement of expenditure on roads, rivers, drains, and bridges for the year ending March 31st, 1903. Receipts for tho yeai•, including balance from previous year, were £-020 6s Bd, expenditure £1579 4s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £441 2s 4d. In moving the adoption of the report and balance—leet, the Chairman further explained various items, and invited criticism on toe past and suggestions for tho coming year. Mr Bailey (Rabbit Island) asked the Board to form the road through tho waterhole near the school, if possible, during the year. Mr Harris pointed out the necessity of completing metalling the road from the Canal to station. % Mr Hubbard urged the Board to continue their present policy in the suppression of small birds, and thought that the amount, £101 2s 2d, was money well spent. On tlie motion of Mr Hubbard, seconded by Mr Harris, a vote of thanks was accorded the chairman, and congratulated the Board on the satisfactory way the work and business had been carried out.
