SHEEP SALE AT NAPIER.
(press association telegram.) NAPIER, February 17. Messrs Dolgety and Co., in conjunction with Messrs Weuby and Lanauze, held on important clearing sale of the whole of the Melbourne Station sheep to-day, owing to the Government having taken over the estate. The flock consisted of 40,000 —chiefly heavy-woolled crossbreds, Lincolns bred for constitution, as well us fleece, and purebred Lincolns of good status. There wus a large attendance of buyers, including many from the Wairarapa, West Coast, and Canterbury. For 20,300 breeding ewes, mixed ages, prices ranged at 7s 2d to 9s 6d ; for two-tooths, four years, 8s 9d, five years 8s 3d to 9s 9d; sixtooths up to lis, and a particularly good line of four-tooths up to 13s 7d. Nine thousand wethers brought 8s 3d for twotooths, 10s Id, four-tooths, lis 3d sixtooths. # Nine thousand four hundred lambs, mixed sexes, averaged ss; stud Lincolns, ewes, two-tooths, from 14s to 225, four-tooths 12s, three, four, and five years, 9s 6d; stud Lincoln rams, Ugs to s|gs; flock Lincoln rams, Ugs to lg.
