STATEMENT BY LORD RANFURLY.
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TFXEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, December 18. Lord Ranfurly, speaking at the Grammar School prize distribution ceremony tonight, referred to the English Education Bill. It was, he said, no doubt of a highly controversial character, but it would be admitted that the present system was not what it should 'be. Its object was to put the country in a much better position in relation to education, and the Government were resolved to stand or fall by it. His personal opinion wu a change in the educational system was- absolutely necessary. It would be a great thing if all over the British Empire the cost of obtaining patents were- cheapened, technical schools encouraged, and our inventive resources developed.
