THE FLORAL FETE.

Th«re was » good gathering in the City Council Chamb&fs last night, on the occasion of the distribution of prizes won at the Floral Fete, held on Monday laet. The Hon. Ghas. Louisson, M.L.C., chairman of the Executive Committee, his Worship the Mayor (Mr A. X O. Rhodes) and Mrs Rhodes were present. The Hon. Ohas. Louisson said they had been asked to assemble to witness the distribution of prizes, which Mrs A. E. G-. Rhodes had kindly consented to present. They all regretted the unfortunate weather whifth hAd. spoilt the end of tfloftd Fete D*y, bob tdidfer the oir-. cumstances he thought they had done welL ■Mts Rhodes then read out the names, each prize-taker walking up. and , receiving the antount won. The Mayor, on bahaif of the Cheviot Committee, thanked Mr Montague for the effort he had made in raising £516 at tine Flotal Feie tow-ards the relief ftifl&d. He only regretted that the funds of the Floral Fete had not done as well. Ai> the Conclusion of proceedings Mr M. Murphy proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Rhodes. He also expressed, his regret at the' fact that'the flower^-took a less prominent place at the Fete, than the greenery, arid alluded to the necessity for improving the Pubiio Gardens. tit iouisson said he felt a little aggrieved tha)t the Fete had been spoken of fftther pityingly. On the whole, and under the circumstances, he thought the day had been fairly successful, and that the people who had been there fared betb&f than the holi-day-makers who had gone further afield.
