The result of the effort* of Ir O. D. Hardie, headmaster of the Borough School, and his associates to get \vp- an exhibition of a most varied, instructive, and highlyinteresting character has b&en to exceed the most sanguine expectations, atid to fax and away exceed anything of the kind previously seen in Ashburton. Much taste has besn d'splayed in arranging the rooms and displaying the . numerous artioLss, large numbars of -whidi are of a \-aluable and artistic nature. The art room alone is well worth seeing, axnd , contains many valuable
paintings,- dtf&wiflgs,' nniUfifc" epecbtten'9 of wood-carving, ourlos, etc. ' Oxte of the main rooms is fitted tip as a concert hall, another as a refresWent room., apd in another is displayed a very varied essorbmeftt of- plain and " fancy needlework. v There , are also many specimens of sahpol work in idli stages. H. Elliott, of C&ristchuroh, paintinga by Mr Madden, Airs R. A. WoodUiorpe, ' Mr* A. Gates, Miss Ethel Jooe*. Mrs E, (?. Oi»p, Mice V, Willis, and others, in addition to a number lent iby Mrs J. W. Malcolmson, Mrs Tabateau, Mr O. Thomas, Mr C. D. Hardie, and numerous others. Mrs Rudolph Friedlander, i together with aouonber of other ladies, have been working hard for a considerable time past making and collecting articles of plain and fancy needlework, etc, and generally assisting to make fahe Hobby Show a genuine success-, and they are deserving of the greatest praise. A concert was given on Thursday evening, and again last night, and there was a crowded attendance- during, the whole of both evenings. The proceeds of the Hobby Show will be devoted partly towards the school prize fund and' partly towards establishing a school library.
