NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
Arrangements have been made for & fireworks display at New Brighton on Thursday evening next. There will be an excellent display, ant! should the night prove favourable no doubt there will be a large attendance of visitors. The opening of the exhibition of the work of the etudeuts of the School of Art will take place to-da} , . The exhibition will be open for three days, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There is no charge for admission. The nomination of members of the Harbour Board to represent ihe Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, will close at noou today with the Secretary. Arrangements have been made here for the holding, by Dr. Bevan, of Melbourne, of a popular service in the Cnoral Hail next Sunday afternoon. The ordinary meetings of the Sydenham, St. Albany and Linwood Borough Councils will be held this evening at the usual hour. On Thursday uext the anuual Lyttelton Catholic picnic will be held at Rhodes Bay. The John Anderson will take the holiday makers from the Lyttelton wharf on the arrival of Ihe 8.55 a.m. train from Christchurch. Another trip will be made on arrival of the 1.25 p.m. train. The Richmond Public School will hold its annual picnic on Thursday next to Oxford, via the Waimakariri Gorge, returning through Rangiora. Arrangements have been made to allow the train to stop a short time at the Gorge. The Kaiapoi tiorough School picnic is to be held at Stunner on Friday next. There was an exhibition on Saturday night at Messrs Kineaid aud Go's ot nine black Minorca hens' eggs, wiuch are of an abnormal sizoj the nine weighing lib 13oz, and each eg , over the oval measured (% inches, and round it inches. The fowls were brought up on special food, which is manufactured by Messrs Kempthorne, Prosser and Co.
The Maggie Moore—H. R. Roberts company opeu tkeir season here on. Saturday next with the musical comedy "Mrs Quinn *• Twins." Since Miss Moore was here iast she has added several English and American successes to her repertoire, and with the support of Mr Roberts and her company, no ttoubfc the Christciiurch season will De a success. The plan of the reserved seats will open to-morrow at Messrs Alilner and Thompson's. A Dunedin correspondent telegraphed on Saturday: —"'The iVia-ggie Moore —H. R. Roberts Company's production of 'The Silence of Dean Mainland' last night was a brilliant success. The audience was enthusiastic in the reception of the piece, and there were imperative recalls at tne close of each, act, the curtain having to be raised thrice at the end of tlie play."
