Friday, September 23. (Before J. Hamilton, Esq., J.P.) Deserting their Ship.—Thomas James Parker, John Alfred Franklin, and Henry S'ms pleaded guilty to a charge of deserting from the Duke of Devonshire. Mr N alder appeared for the captain of the steamer. The men were sentenced to a fortnight's imprisonment, to be sent to join the steamer at Port Chalmers. Stone - Throwing. — James Campbell pleaded not guilty to a charge of throwing stones in a public street, to tho danger of persons therein. Tho evidence of several witnesses showed that the accused threw many stones, most violently, at a number of persons. He was sentenced to a fine of 40s, or seven days 1 imprisonment.
