OBITUARY.

MR H. S. HARRIS.

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 21. During the passage of the Wakatipu from Wellington to Sydney, Mr Herbert Samuel Harris, a passenger from Christchurch to London, died.

Much regret was expressed yesterday on the receipt of the news of the death of Mr Herbert S. Hams,, the well known butcher, whilst on the voyage to Sydney by the Wakatipu. Mr and Mrs Harris, with their little boy, were en route to England for a trip, intending to leave Sydney by one of the .Orient liners. At a farewell gathering of his friends on the 12th inst, at which Mr J. T. Ford presided, a presentation of a purse of sovereigns was made to him. The visit of Mr Harris to England as a practical butcher of so many years standing, was looked forward to with interest, as it-was understood he intended to look into the way in which the frozen meat trade in London, —more particularly the retail trade —is conducted. Mr Harris had for some time a shop at the corner of Manchester and Armagh streets. Subsequently he removed to one in Cashel street west, formerly occupied by Mr H. B. Lane, in which he continued to carry on business till he sold out just prior to leaving for England. Mrs Harris cabled yesterday to one of her brothers-in-law, Mr Otley, that she intends returning by the next boat from Sydney, and would bring tLe body back for burial here.

The news of the death of Mr H. S. Harris was received with profound regret at the Addington saleyards, where he was a general favoiu ite. He was not only esteemed for his excellent business qualities, but his genial disposition, gained him a very wide circle of friends, who vrere not only sorry at his departure from the colony, but will deplore his sudden decease.

LONDON, September 21. Dr. Henry L. Jenner, formerly Bishop of Dunedin, is dead, aged 78.
