Wednesday, June 8. (Before W. J. Neate and J. Murray, Esq.., J.P.'s.) Drunkenness, &c—A charge of drunkenness against a man not before convicted was dismissed. Neils Ludwig for committing an indecent act was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labour. Case Dismissed.—James Stapleton was charged with stealing on May 31st a watch and chain valued at £35, the property of Alexander Anderson. The parties were boarding-house acquaintances of a day's standing. After drinking about the town a good deal, they were in an hotel j both were under the influence of liquor. Accused took the watch out of prosecutor's pocket, saying he would care of it till the morning. Several persons saw tho transaction, and heard what was said. The prosecutor informed the police, and the watch was found in accused's trousers pocket. After hearing the evidence for the prosecution the case was dismissed.. Thursday, June 9. (Before J. Palmer and E. O. Connor, Esqs., J.P.s). Drunkenness. — John Isherwood was charged with drunkenness, this being the second offence within six months. Accused stated that he had a steamer ticket to Queensland where he was going to a job, and promised to leave Christchurch to-day if the Bench womld allow him. The Bench granted a remand until to-morrow, instructing the police to keep him under surveillance until he left. Damaging Property.— C. Raoher was charged with breaking a pane of glass in the Clarendon Hotel. Accused was fined 10s, and ordered to pay the amount of the damage done. Alleged Theft. — Dennis Patrick Mahoney was charged with having on June sth stolen one overcoat, value £2 ss, the property of A. Bain. On the application of Mr McConnell the case was remanded for a week. (Before R. Beetham, Esq., S.M.) Civil Cases.—Judgments went for plaintiffs by default, with costs, in Linwood Borough Council v Bertram, £2 lis 6d; Hill v Lewis, £8 3s; Official Assignee v Ogden, £10 18s; Tribe and Co. v Nicholas, £1 5s 4d, and Allinson, Small and Co v Brighouse, £10 ss. Berry v Stevens was adjourned till June 13th. Friday, June 10. (Before W. Pradhoe, W. Pratt, and E. H. Ricketts, Esqrs., J.P.'s.) Drunkenness.—Far this offence John Isherwood was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour. Alleged Larceny.—Sydney Nettlefold was charged with having stolen £1, the money of Harry Fawcett. Mr Beattie appeared for the accused. The money had been handed to the accused to pay to a third party, but the accused retained it. After hearing a statement by counsel and some evidence, the Bench said they thought the charge a trumped up one and dismissed the case. A Lark.—Herbert Hunter and Aubrey Wiggins were charged with damaging one clock and one watch, to the value of '£1. They admitted the offence. The prosecutor, a watchmaker living at Woolston, said that on May 19th the boys were skylarking about his place, when one pushed the other against the door; it flew open, and striking* the counter knocked some articles on the floor. As he did not wish to press the case, the boys were cautioned, convicted and diacharged. Miscellaneous.—For riding bicycles on foothpaths S. J. Gordon and G. Garsia were each fined 10a, with 7a costs.—For negligently driving a cab B. Gleeaon was fined £l r with 13s costs.—-For keeping an unregistered dog G, Ashbolt was fined 10s, •with 7s costs.—For not exhibiting in his cab a scale of fares D. Yorke was fined 10s, with coats 7s.
