(PRBBS ASSOCIATION' TJBUSORAM.)
WELLINGTON, March 17. The Executive Council ineb to-day on the Governor's arrival from the south, and took into consideration the two murder cases at Silverstream aud Dunedin. It was decided not to allow counsel to appear, and that iv Philpott's oaae the law should be allowed to toko its course. The decision in Clement's case was deferred, to permit enquiry to be made into his sanity. It is understood that application was made on behalf of Philpott to be allowed to appeal, but refused. [BY TiMJRGRAPH.] (FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.} WELLINGTON, March 17* It appears that when Mr Jollicoe made application to be heard on Philpott'a behalf before the Executive Council, he quoted jm a precedent the faot that he had been hea&d in the Chemis case, and with satisfactory result in so far as the oonviot waa concerned. The Government, however, refused in the present case to hear Mr Jellicbe. The latter will now write to-morrow, asking to be allowed to put Philpotfc'e case in writing before the Executive I understand the date of the execution has not yet been fixed.
