AUCKLAND, Maroh 17. At a meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce, it was agreed : to endorse the resolution of the Christohurch Chamber of Commerce regarding the Pacific cable. A communication was received from the Sydney Chamber of Commerce on the subject of forms of bills of lading, in .. which the Chamber is endeavouring to. get the New South Wales Legislature to pass a Bill nullifying the alleged objectionable exemptions, viz., excluding ship owners from almost any liability. The Council agreed to consider the question at its next general meeting. •■„■- WANGANUI, March 17.
The position of the barquontino St. Kilda, ashore at the heads, is much the same. Captain Tendall, of the Marine Under* writers' Association, arrived, this afternoon. WELLINGTON, March 17. The Medical Association has been engaged to-day in a discussion on influenza. Mr Andrew Collins, who has for the last three years bees President of the Trades and Labour Counoil, has resigned that position.
As a paragraph has been going the rounds to the effect that Miss Kathorino Hardy had died suddenly in India, Mr T. M. Hardy (brother of the young lady), who lives in Wellington, says that it cannot be true, because her sister, who is with her, would have cabled bad anything happened. He heard from them only last week, and they were both in good health. ■;
