ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION.
OAMARU, March 17.
At the annual meeting of tho Rifle Association to-night, in tho election of members of the Council tho only change was th&k Sergeant Webster, of tho A Battery, Auckland, was elected in place of Captain White.
Wanganui was selected as the next site for the meeting, to be held about the first week in March next.
Major Sommerville announced, and tae news was received with regret, that after the next meeting he intended to sever his connection with the Association, owing to the pressure of private business: Hβ said he had taken charge of the Association in Wanganui in 1886, and would leave it after the meeting there next year. In referring to the position of the Association the Major said that a much more definite guarantee should be given them by the Government* instead of leaving members of the Council to become responsible for what waa really c colonial affair.
