A letter beinfr re-. ceiveoi from the Mayor announcing that he was unavoidably prevented from attending, Cr. Rnllitt was moved to the chair. Correspondence ms received:—From A. J. White'a trustees, regarding the completion of the purchase oi the- reeervoir cite and i saying that on application to the borough's solicitors they tf ere informed thett no instruotidna had been given. Cr. Hahmer stated that he had, aa requested by the Council, lodged the plans with the solicitors, but he had given no instructions ac he considered they should go through the Town Clerk and not from an individual councillor. Resolved that the Town Clerk write to the borough solicitors inefcractinj; them to at oace complete the title of th« reservoir site, and that Mr White's trusteeii be written to to that effect. From Mr John Joyce, M.H.R., saying that, as requested, he had applied to the Minister for the u»» of prison litbour for j the Council to build a sea wall for i the esplanade, aud would inform the
Council as to the results when he received the Minister's reply. From the Nortli Canterbury Hospital Board, stating that a meeting of delegates from the Sumner, Woolston, and Lin wood Borough Councils would be hold on November 24th, for the election of one member to represent) those boroughs on tho Hospital Hoard. Resolved that, the Mayor represent Bumner at the meeting. The Financial Committee's report was coal, and accounts amou:.-.ing to £17 6s fld wcro passed for payment. The receipts for the fortnight had bet'n £28 18s 7d. Resolved that ail outstanding rates and charges not paid by November 30th bo sued for without further notice, and that an advertisement to that be inserted in the papers. The Kugineei-'s report was read and adopted. It announced that the supply oi water was sufficient at present, but that owing to the increased number of houses ta be supplied it would be uew.-stiry shortly to sink another 2-in pipe. Or. Mills gave notice of motion that the offices of inspector, Dog Tax Collector and Poundkeeper bo amalgamated, and that applications lie invited foe the post. In reply to Cγ. Mummer the Chairman explained that all steps regarding the revision of the by-laws had'been abandoned owing to th« expense thnl: would be incurred. Referring to cattle waudering on tho road, and the proper porformanco of tho poundkeeper's dnties, Cr. Graham said that recently his attention had been culled to a bull which took possession of tho road near his place, and prevented people passing. Or. Monck explained that that was a different matter to mere cat tie-wandering, and thad the owner of the bull was liable to a £5 fine.
