OPENING OF WANGANUI SPORTS GROUNDS.

WANGANUI, November 10. The fine new sports grounds in Cook'a gardens, with an asphalt banked cycling track on which a sum equal to £1600 has been spent, were opened yesterday by the Hon. Jaß. Carroll. There was threatening weather, but the Attendance was above 2500. Some of the best amateur cyclists of the colony competed, including Ciaxter (Auckland), Cough ley (Napier), Maxwell (Dune* din), McCabe (Nelson) and Graham (Tnnaru). The local mampion, J. A. Thomson, held his own, carrying off the Two Mile Championship and the Ladies' Bracelet. Ho tied with Maxwell in the Mile Handicap, and was placod in the other events. Graham won the Half-mile Cycle, K. Davidson (23yds) the Three Mile, and F. O. Davidson (210 yds) the Five Mile Handicap. Dexter secured second in the Bracelet. The running events had to be postponed.
