THE TRANSVAAL.

MR CftAMBERLAIN AND THE

TREATIES,

HEATED DEBATE IN THE

VOLKSRAAD.

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.

Pretoria, August 28. A heated debate occurred in the Vollcsraad with regard to the attitude of Mr Chamberlain in reference to arbitration respecting the treaties entered into by the Transvaal Government with the Powers other than Great Britain. A section of the members denied the suzerainty of Great Britain over the Transvaal.

The report presented by the Industrial Commission appointed by the Transvaal, Government, which recommended that a Board be appointed on the Rand goldfields to supervise the carrying out of the liquor law and to pass a law for the prevention of gold thefts, is unlikely to pass the Volksraad during the present session.
