KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present— The Mayor and all the Councillors, except Cr. Hopkins, to whom leave of absence was granted. The Returning Officer wrote notifying the election of Cr. Doubleday as Mayor. A letter was read from the Land Tax Department advising payment of subsidy £86 2s 6d to Council's credit. The Sanitary Committee reported that a nuisance in Meadow road was receiving attention. The Finance Committee reported the receipts to be £17 3s, debit balance at Bank £646 Os o<l. Accounts were passed amounting to £15 2s 9d. Mr W. Anderson's tender for dog collars was accepted. A plan for a respect board, on which the names of Mayors of the borough were to be inscribed, to be. placed in the Chamber, costing £5, was adopted. Cr. Clark called attention to persons riding and driving on footpath in Dale street, and it was decided to take steps to stop the practice. . Cr. Fraser moved, and Cr. Blakely seconded, that the water-cart be used. The motion was lost, only the mover and seconder voting for it, the majority being in favour of a special watering rate. Cr. Fraser moved that the water-cart be sold. This was not seconded, and the matter dropped. The Council agreed to postpone the Mayoral.installation until Thursday evening, and then adjourned.
