NEW ZEALAND JOURNALISM.
" We note with pleasure," aays the Neio Zealand Church Kews, " a new feature in the Ohristchurch Pkkss, in the farm of an occasional sermon in its columns. This new feature will, we feel sure, be much appreciated by a large section of that paper's subscribers. The idea might with advantage be adopted by other journals in the colony—though we are far from suggesting that the Prkss stands alone in thie much-to-be-approved-of way. As a whole, New Zealand journalism legitimately takes high rank. Our own judgment, based upon a personal knowledge ot many newspapera from all parts of the world, unhesitatingly Hoea to support this claim. Of the newspaper Press of this colony we have reason for being proud. It is creditable, as a rule, alike to the editor and the printer. If it has had a faulc, we should siy that the fauU hae been one of an over-tendency to oxalt sporting news to an undue prominence, and to overlook the religious side of human life, and therefore to become rather onesided. Beyond an occasional leading article on some ecclesiastical question, the newspaper Press has seldom ventured. We are gUd, therefore, to find in one more case that the religious element isreceivingsomerocoguition Aβ a nob unsuitable element to mingle with the vast variety of constituents of which an ordinary newspaper may be made up. For this particular instance in our own city we would respectfully tender our sincere thanks to the Pimss, and at the same time thankfully acknowledge the great courtesy and consideration whioh the Christchurcb newspapers have ever shown towards the Church in generously publishing reports of its meetings and movements, great or small."
