CANTERBURY TROTTING CLUB.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—According to the report of the Committee meeting of this Club, published in your paper of this morning, it was resolved "that no bookmakers be allowed on the course." Now, allow mc to suggest to the management of this Club to have a 10i totalisator open on every race, and not increase ib to £1 tickets on certain races, as I am certain there are not a great many who attend these meetings who can afford to plump on £1 on each race, and yet who would like to have an interest in the race. I think then there would be no necessity to exclude the bookmakers. The Club must, I think, admit that ib is to benefit the totalisator that they have the bookmakers excluded, Avho I expeob take a large share of the money which would otherwise possibly go to the machine. Then why not place a machine in the bookmakers' place ?—Yours, _c, Sprat. 13th March, 1896.
