Tauranga Stakes Handicap, of 169 soys ; one mile and a half—Perkin 1, Retribution 2, Free Lance 3. The other 6tarters were Soot Free, Cannibal, Lord Raven and Bulldog. Won by a length. Dividend £8. Time, 2min 41sec. Half-mile Scurry, of 10 soys ; four furlongs —Luna 1. Dividend £2 4s. Time, 50 2-sth sec. County Stakes Handicap, of 40 soys ; one mile—Cochord 1, Derby 2, Zillah 3. Dividend £1 19a. Time, lmin 47sbo. Shorts Handicap, of 30 soys ; four furlongs —Creeper 1, Brian Boru 2, Sunrise 3. Dividend £103. Time, 53sec. Flying Handicap, of 50 soys; six furlongs—Booby 1, Zillah 2, Free JLance 3. Dividend £3 17s. Handicap Flat Race, of 15spVs; one mile— Glenrose 1, Good Shot 2, Aphony 3. Dividend £2 ss. Time, lmin 48sec. The sum of £2463 passed through the totalisator, £620 more than last year. Mr Piper's Btarting was excellent throughout the day. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, January 15. There is but little wagoring over the Cup, backers being content to wait for the day. Stepfeldt is the ruling favourite, while Lady Zetland, Bessie McCarthy, The Shrew and Lorelei are nibbled at. The Auckland candidates have arrived, at the Hutt, and the Southern contingent are ezpeoted on Sunday. The Johnsonville Trotting Club have decided to uphold the disqualification of the horses that ran at the Palmerston North meeting. The Stewards of the Plumpton Park Racing and Trotting Club met yesterday afternoon and disqualified the horse Here-1-Go, for ever; the owner, Cormack, for five years; the driver, W. Stokes, during the pleasure of the Club; and F. Smith, for two years, for giving misleading evidence. Acceptances for the Dunedin Cup and Publican's Handicap close to-day. Nominations for the following further events at the Meeting close at the same time :—The first, second and third Hurdle Races and Stewards' Welter Handicap.
